Madeira once again wins the World Travel Awards 2019
Madeira won, for the fifth consecutive time, the “World Travel Awards” for "Best Island Destination in the World", at the Grand Final Gala ceremony held today, 28 November, in the city of Muscat, Oman. These awards are given annually to reward, for excellence, the brands and places that stand out, in the various regions of the world, at the level of the tourism industry.
The vote that awarded the Madeira destination included several competing tourist destinations, namely Belize, Bali (Indonesia), Barbados, Bora Bora, Cozumel (Mexico), Crete (Greece), Fiji, Hawaii, Jamaica, Maldives, Mauritius, Santa Lucia, Sardinia (Italy), Seychelles, Sicily (Italy) and Zanzibar (Tanzania).
It should be remembered that at the European Gala of the “World Travel Awards”, which took place this year in Funchal, at the Belmond Reid's Palace Hotel, on 8 June, Madeira won, for the 6th time, the "Europe's Leading Island Destination" award.
The Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture and President of the Madeira Promotion Association, Eduardo Jesus, highlights the importance of Madeira winning this award again, which consolidates the achievements of the previous four years and allows the visibility of the destination at an international level, at a time when this factor assumes particular importance.
With a secular tradition in the tourism sector, Madeira is a destination that stands out for its natural beauty, the hospitality of its people and the excellence of its service offer, both accommodation and complementary.
The “World Travel Awards”, created in 1993, are awarded annually to recognise, reward and celebrate the excellence of all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.
