Madeira Island Ultra Swim (MIUS)
Madeira will host between the second edition of the Madeira Ultra Swim, the most extensive of the world swimming crossings comprising a total of 22.7 nautical miles (42 km).
Starting at Porto Santo island, more specifically in Calheta Beach, next to Cal Islet, and finishing in Praínha, in Ponta de São Lourenço, in Madeira island, this race will gather the participation of a maximum of 25 athletes (swimmers), in a route connecting the marine protected reserves of the two islands.
The Madeira Islands Ultra Swim (MIUS) consists of a competition with a strong sports, ecological and environmental component, which aims at promoting the natural heritage of the region.
By promoting this event the organisation intends to integrate Madeira Islands in the international circuit of long open water crossings, based on weather conditions as well as the quality of its waters, atributes thar make Madeira and Porto Santo islands, the perfect destinations for the practice all kinds of sports and outdoor leisure activities at any time of the year.
