Henriques & Henriques – Vinhos, S.A.
The history of the Henriques family, who was once the greatest vineyard owner of Madeira, dates back to the 15th century. The family company was founded in 1850 by João Gonçalves Henriques, later inherited by his children, who created the current company, Henriques & Henriques, in 1912. In 1925, the company began exporting its wines. Later, in 1969, upon the death of the last owner, the company was inherited by three friends and partners of the deceased owner. It has revealed a constant growth and, in 1992, new installations in Câmara de Lobos and a winemaking centre in Quinta Grande were built, where vineyards were planted in 1995. In recent years, a space that was misused and where the staff took their meals was adapted to receive visitors for wine tastings, an appetizer or even a meal. As one of the greatest Madeira wine producers, it exports wine to several countries and receives many visitors at the Câmara de Lobos’ installations, where they can appreciate the old wines stock, resting in big old casks and even in its cooperage, or even witness their production. With an important stock of Madeira wines and with a wide variety of levels, starting in the Tinta Negra variety and the three- and five-year-old wines. Then come the ten-year-old wines, on a level above, followed by the fifteen- and twenty-year-old ones. The Harvest, Solera, Vintage and Old Reserve are wines from higher categories, many of them rare, which represent delicious experiences and present these classic wines from a unique region in the world.
