Madeira reelected the World’s Leading Island Destination
For the sixth consecutive year, Madeira Destination was elected by the World Travel Awards as the World´s Leading Island Destination 2020, in those that are considered to be the“ Oscars of tourism ”, in a gala that was held in virtual format in Moscow, due to the coronavirus (covid-19) global pandemic.
Madeira competed in this category alongside other internationally renowned tourist destinations such as: Ambergris Cay (Belize), Bali (Indonesia), Barbados (Caribbean), Bora Bora (French Polynesia), Cook Islands (Pacific Ocean), Cozumel (Mexico) , Crete (Greece), Fiji (Pacific Ocean), Hawaii (USA), Holbox Island (Mexico), Turks and Caicos Islands (Caribbean), Jamaica (Caribbean), Maldives (Indian Ocean), Mauritius (Indian Ocean), Saint Lucia (Caribbean), Sardinia (Italy), Seychelles (Indian Ocean), Siargao (Philippines), Sicily (Italy) and Zanzibar (Tanzania).
This award, once again, reinforces the prestige and international positioning of Madeira Destination, after having already won the award for "Europe’s Leading Island Destination" on the 1st of November.
Great part of the voting fell to tourism professionals and travel agents located in more than 200 countries worldwide.
The World Travel Awards are held once a year and aim to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in all sectors of the tourism industry on a global scale.
