Renewed "Bordal" embroidery factory

The historical “Bordal” embroidery factory, located on the symbolic Rua Fernão de Ornelas, has undergone improvement works which included the creation of a “Historical Guidebook to Madeira Embroidery”, available to visitors.
In the historical guidebook, Madeira Embroidery lovers can find photographs that represent the manufacturing process of old factories and which integrate the collection of the museum ”Vicentes Photographia Museum”.
Several pieces, documents, record books and some embroidery executed by “Bordal” since its founding in 1962 are also on display.
With nearly 150 years of history, the production process of Madeira Embroidery keeps its authenticity, being totally handmade and a high quality embroidery, as you may witness if you visit the factory.
Another initiative is a workshop that takes place on Thursdays, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.. Visitors can learn the different steps of the typical Madeiran embroidery, including the various stitches. All participants leave with a small handkerchief to finish at home. Each enrolment costs 25 euros, limited to 10 people per workshop.

Other regional Embroidery factories preserve with sensitivity this secular tradition that causes the admiration and appreciation of its customers from all four corners of the World.
